The 48-year-old victim was assisting the investigation of a different, nonfatal crash when a motorist driving past in a pickup truck lost control of his vehicle. Authorities say the truck hit multiple cars in addition to striking the fire chief.
A resident of St. Francisville, the man was the chief of the Wakefield Fire Department. State police report his death was one of at least four caused by the unprecedented winter weather that struck the south earlier the month.
